Police have appealed to the public to stop spreading unfounded rumours after a body was found in a burning car.
Acting Superintendent Dian Dyer-Alexander said the service understood that the incident had caused major concern.
But Dyer-Alexander said, “We ask that persons do not jump to conclusions, and instead respect the investigative process”.
She added, “We also advise the public to cease spreading unverified information pertaining to the matter, as this only serves to increase anxiety amongst the community.”
Dyer-Alexander was speaking after the body was found in a burning car in an open area in Lookout Gardens in Bodden Town at about 2:30pm on Thursday.
A major investigation was launched in the wake of the grim find to establish the circumstances of the death.
Officers, who appealed for witnesses, said they believed the incident was an isolated one and that work continued to identify the remains.
