By Aaron Humes: According to police reports, this morning’s attempt on the life of Jimmy Rojas was planned retaliation for an earlier murder.
Jose Matus was shot dead earlier this year and Rojas was a suspect. Rojas was cornered and shot on Tibruce Street earlier today and remains hospitalized.
Police say three men belonging to the Backaland Crips street gang have been detained on suspicion of attempted murder. Further, the rivalry between members of Backaland Crips and PIV Bloods is expected to spill into potential retaliation which police hope to quell using a show of force.
Formal investigations continue into the incident.
