- Jennifer Simon claims she has evidence of Andy Williams receiving EC$115,000 bribe
- Ron Redhead said investigation concluded allegation raised had no substantive evidence
- Redhead’s disclosure could be in violation of Public Life Act Section 47
Ron Redhead, Public Relations Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), said that he and an apparent team of the party have conducted their own investigations into bribery allegations against Andy Williams, the party’s General Secretary. Based on the information received from the Integrity Commission and other places, the allegation is false and tantamount to hearsay.
In an interview on Monday, 16 June 2025, on the podcast “RideAlong” with host Junior George, Redhead stated that the investigation conducted concluded there was no substantive evidence to support the allegation raised by Jennifer Simon of the “Simon Says” podcast.
Simon claims that she has evidence showing that Williams, the Minister for Mobilisation, Implementation, and Transformation, who has also acted as Prime Minister on several occasions when Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell is out on state business, received a bribe of EC$115,000.
During a news conference earlier in the month, Simon asked Williams about the bribery allegation, and he said that it was totally false. In April, Simon filed 3 complaints to the Integrity Commission. She further disclosed that Gillian Bristol, Chairperson of the Commission, responded by promising to give due consideration to the complaints against Minister Andy Williams, Special Envoy Andrea St Bernard, and Senior Public Officer Nicole Clarke.
Redhead, sharing the party’s conclusion, said, “As it relates to the allegation that was bandied about for the last 2 weeks by a particular individual against Minister Andy Williams, I want to say that I have done my own investigations as public relations officer,” he continued.
“We have been able to acquire all information, even that what was submitted to the Integrity Commission, and we have concluded that there is no substantive evidence. No one will be able to come out and say they have evidence of any bribe, so that is totally false. We are treating it like that. We stand 100% behind the general secretary, Mr Andy Williams, and we are satisfied that our own internal investigation has concluded that this is not factual, not factual at all. We can deal with it in that light, it is only rumours,” he said.
Continuing the conversation, George said, “Based on the information you collected from the Integrity Commission and others, you are saying that there is no credible proof to back that up?”
Redhead responded: “Correct, correct, absolutely none, and in fact it is only hearsay.”
Following the interview, the general public began pointing out that his disclosure could be in violation of Section 47 of the Public Life Act. Redhead said that he never claimed that the commission gave him any information.
The term of the Commissioners for the Office of the Integrity Commission expired on 31 May 2025, and a new commission has yet to be appointed.
