After more than seven years of delays, Delano Forbes will finally be facing trial, commencing on October 27th for four separate murders committed across Antigua.
Forbes, now in his late 20s, stands accused of killing Wilfred “Bongo” Williams in Swetes, Shawn Henry in Point, and Lisue Williams on All Saints Road. He was charged with those three murders back in 2017. A year later, in 2018, he was charged with the murder of Maurison Thomas in All Saints.
Each victim’s case will be tried separately as preferred by the accused.
Forbes became known as the “Vampire Killer” after allegations surfaced that he drank his victims’ blood. When police arrested him, they reportedly found two bottles containing what appeared to be blood near his home in Swetes.
The case has seen multiple delays over the years. In 2022, Forbes’ defence team questioned whether he was mentally fit to stand trial. Psychiatrist Dr Griffin Benjamin examined him and determined that Forbes could understand and participate in the proceedings.
Dr Benjamin noted that while Forbes showed signs of anti-social personality disorder, it was not severe enough to make him incompetent to stand trial. Forbes subsequently pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Forbes’ trial which was originally scheduled for July has now been set for October 27th. Recent delays are reportedly due to his health concerns.
