The public is notified that the Government of Grenada will proceed with the removal of all illegal moorings located within the bays and harbours of the State, with particular focus on Prickly Bay and Woburn/Clarke’s Court Bay.
In accordance with the Fisheries Regulations, any individual or entity wishing to install a mooring system for personal, recreational, or commercial use must first obtain approval from the Fisheries Division for installations within Marine Protected Areas, and from the Grenada Ports Authority for moorings located in harbours under its jurisdiction.
Despite an initial notice issued on 8 August 2021, unauthorised mooring installations have continued, especially in the areas of Woburn/Clarke’s Court Bay and Prickly Bay. The Government remains committed to strengthening regulations in the yachting sector and ensuring the protection of the marine environment. Accordingly, firm measures are being implemented to bring all marine-related activities into compliance with national laws.
A locally registered company, Moor South, has been granted the appropriate leases to legally manage, install, and operate government-approved mooring systems. Moor South is designated as the official operator for the future development and ongoing maintenance of moorings within the designated Marine Protected Areas. The installation of these new systems in Woburn/Clarke’s Court Bay and Prickly Bay is expected to commence shortly.
As such, all illegal moorings must be removed from Grenadian coastal waters by no later than 15 December 2025. In the lead-up to this deadline, enforcement personnel will be monitoring the affected areas to ensure full compliance.
Failure to comply with this notice will result in penalties as outlined in the Laws of Grenada, including the removal of illegal moorings by the relevant authorities.
