Ruben Amorim jokes Ratcliffe offered him new contract as he lifts lid on crunch meeting with Man Utd co-owner

RUBEN AMORIM says he still has the support of Manchester United co-owner Jim Ratcliffe – and joked he has been offered a new deal.

The Red Devils have made their worst start since 1992 with just four points from four games and sit 14^th in the table.

Ratcliffe visited Amorim at Carrington this week leading to speculation the 40-year-old former Sporting Lisbon coach could be in danger. 

Asked what the meeting was about, Amorim joked: “A new contract is on offer from him!

“No, it was a normal thing to show the support, explaining that it’s a long project, which he has said many times.

“I spoke with him, with Omar [Berrada, chief executive], with Jason [Wilcox, director of football].

“I see all the data around the team, so it was just a normal meeting.

“This is the football club with maybe more pressure than any other in the world and we want to win.

“I think we are playing well until the boxes. Defending and attacking, we need to be more aggressive in the boxes, but we need to be better.”

Ahead of Saturday’s visit of Chelsea to Old Trafford, Amorim revealed Diogo Dalot remains sidelined, but Mason Mount and Matheus Cunha, who missed the derby defeat, are both back training with the squad.

Amorim said: “Dalot is out, Mason is in the squad and Cunha is in the squad. Lisandro Martinez is still out.”

Dalot’s injury means the door for one of Noussair Mazraoui or Patrick Dorgu after they were handed a start in the derby.

However, while once may get the go-ahead Mount and Cunha’s return will likely mean fewer minutes for the other, as well as for summer signing Benjamin Sesko, who failed to impress in his first Premier League start.

Chelsea will be without their own marquee striker signing Liam Delap for the visit after he suffered a hamstring injury that is likely to keep him sidelined until December.

Cole Palmer made his return to the Premier League from his injury last weekend against Brentford, but played the entirety of the Blues’ match against Bayern Munich just days ago.
