By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Orange Walk First Division Closing Championship produced another intense round of football action, as teams in Group B fought to secure vital points in their quest for dominance.
Leading the pack, San Jose Pumas held firm at the top with 10 points, but their recent 0-0 draw against Guinea Grass FC showed the challenges of maintaining their position. While the Pumas remain undefeated, their inability to break down Guinea Grass’s defense allowed their closest competitors to close the gap.
Meanwhile, Mi Gente FC made a powerful statement with a 5-0 rout of their opponents, August Pine Ridge Central, in Group B. The commanding victory strengthened their claim for the top spot, bringing their total to 9 points—just one behind San Jose Pumas. With 14 goals scored in the tournament so far, Mi Gente are the top scoring team.
Reigning champions Yo Creek United, determined to keep their title hopes alive, fought out a 1-1 draw against Crystal FC. Though disappointed not to claim all three points, the result kept them within striking distance, sitting in third place with 7 points.
At the bottom of the standings, August Pine Ridge Central FC and Crystal FC continue their search for a first victory, each with 1 point to their name. Defensive woes remain their biggest issue, with August Pine Ridge conceding 15 goals while Crystal has let in 13, making their fight for survival an uphill battle.
With San Jose Pumas still leading, but Mi Gente FC and Yo Creek United closing in, the race for Group B supremacy is tightening.
