By Aaron Humes: The Sugar Cane Production Committee (SCPC) has released its latest crop update, revealing promising figures for the 2024-2025 sugar cane season.
As of Week 14 ending April 6, a total of 455,311.894 metric tons of cane have been delivered, which accounts for 43% of the overall production estimate of 1,062,278 metric tons.
Some 455,036.544 metric tons of sugar have been produced at a grinding rate of 235.317 metric tons per hour for 101 crop days.
The quality of the sugar cane has remained favorable, with a sugar-to-cane ratio (TC/TS) of 12.549. Additionally, the mud content, which can impact processing efficiency, has been measured at 5.935 percent and a purity level of 80.21 percent.
In terms of sugar output, the Committee reported that 7,770.1 metric tons of plantation white sugar, 13,138.625 metric tons of Demerara brown sugar, and 15,352.926 metric tons of raw sugar have been produced, totalling 36,261.651 metric tons of sugar produced to date.
The crop had been halted near the end of February amid unusually wet weather but the dry season is now in full effect and conditions are expected to further improve, thus improving the output.
