A suspect connected to the fatal shooting of American right-wing political author and commentator Charlie Kirk is in custody following an extensive multi-day search. The man has been identified as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson.
On September 10, Kirk was transported to a nearby hospital after being shot in the neck, but succumbed to his injuries that afternoon.
A recent Business Insider article outlined that Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed earlier reports from President Donald Trump, stating that law enforcement officials had detained the suspect.
Authorities indicated that the arrest came after investigations included interviews with Robinson’s family members, who revealed that Robinson had mentioned Kirk’s scheduled appearance at Utah Valley University and had shown increasing political engagement.
During the investigation, law enforcement personnel discovered unused ammunition, among which one cartridge was inscribed with the phrase, “Hey fascist, catch,” claims the article.
Governor Cox announced during a Friday morning press conference, “Ladies and gentlemen, we got him,” confirming the arrest.
It is reported that initially, two individuals of interest were detained but were subsequently released when authorities confirmed they were not involved in the shooting.
Utah Valley University also announced that its campus would remain closed until Sunday, citing security considerations.
Trump expressed his condolences and announced plans to posthumously award Charlie Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom, recognizing what he described as Kirk’s influence and legacy.
The president stated, “Kirk’s legacy will live on.”
Meanwhile, reports Business Insider, authorities urged the public to refrain from harassing the individuals who had been initially detained but later released, emphasizing respect for due process.
