By Horace Palacio: The village of Santa Familia in the Cayo District has been disturbed by an unusual crime that’s left residents on edge. Over two consecutive nights, thieves targeted the property of Ms. Irene Humes, stealing a total of 19 chickens under the cover of darkness.
What may seem like a small-scale theft is being taken seriously by villagers, who recognize that incidents like these threaten the overall safety and trust within their community. In response, a public notice was issued urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

“This isn’t just about chickens,” said one concerned villager. “It’s about protecting our homes and making sure this doesn’t become a regular thing.”
Authorities are also reminding the public that knowingly buying stolen goods, including livestock, is illegal. Community members are encouraged to come forward with any information that could help identify the culprits.
Tips can be shared directly with Ms. Humes at 677-5136.
As the village comes together in search of answers, some residents fear the chickens may have been stolen to be sold or eaten during the upcoming Easter celebrations—a troubling possibility that adds urgency to finding those responsible.
