
Alvin James and Edd Jno Baptiste of Laplaine along with Selwin Powell of Portsmouth were granted bail in the sum of $25,000 after being arrested and charged with unlawful assembly in Roseau on March 19, 2025.
They appeared before Magistrate Pearl Williams at a Roseau Magistrate Court on Tuesday.
According to the complaint, on March 19, 2025, at Victoria Street in Roseau the accused, “unlawfully, riotously, and tumultuously assembled together to the disturbance of the public peace.” This charge falls under the Public Order Act and carries a penalty of up to five years in prison.
The three accused were not required to enter a plea since the matter is an indictable offense and is expected to be heard at the High Court of Justice before a judge and jury.
They are being represented by Attorneys Joshua Francis and Ronald Charles.
The preliminary inquiry into the matter for James and Jno Baptiste is set for June 30, 2025. However, Powell’s matter was adjourned to August 21st, 2025.
Dominica News Online (DNO) has been alerted that more arrests are expected to be made.
