By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Two San Pedro women were formally arrested and charged on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, following investigations connected to a traffic checkpoint conducted earlier that day on 1 Mile North Road.
In the first arrest, 22-year-old Nelly Marcelita Avila, a Belizean laborer, was charged after police say she was found driving a motor vehicle without a valid license and using a motor vehicle that was not covered by third-party risk insurance. She was cautioned but chose to remain silent.
Later the same day, 36-year-old Alejandra Leticia Castro, a Belizean laborer of the DFC Area, was charged for multiple offenses, including:
Permitting a person to use a motor vehicle not covered by third-party insurance
Assaulting a police officer
Resisting lawful arrest
Using obscene language
Castro was cautioned and also chose to remain silent. Police say the charges stem from violations detected during the traffic operation. Both women are expected to appear in court.
