By Breaking Belize News Staff: Two of six fishermen from northern Belize charged with drug possession were granted High Court bail on Friday. Lerman Norman Leslie, 31, of Chunox Village, Corozal, and Ronyer Alexander Cruz, 24, of Sarteneja Village, Corozal, appeared before Justice Nigel Pilgrim, who granted them bail of $9,000 each with two sureties of $4,500 each.
The Prosecutor, Dercene Staine, had no objections to bail for the two men, who must abide by several strict conditions. These include reporting to the Corozal Police Station on Mondays and Fridays between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., starting March 31, 2025; attending all court hearings at the Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court; avoiding contact with prosecution witnesses; remaining in Belize unless granted permission by a High Court judge and not being arrested or charged with any new offenses, or their bail could be revoked.

Leslie and Cruz were among six fishermen charged with possession of 1,137 grams of cocaine following a police drug bust in Orange Walk Town on March 18, 2025. The group originally included Pastor Mark Anthony Humes, 52, but charges against him were dropped on March 21, 2025.
The Mobile Interdiction Team (MIT) and Highway Interdiction Team (HIT) intercepted a gold Dodge Caravan driven by a Pastor, who was allegedly hired to transport the fishermen from Belize City to Orange Walk. Before reaching their destination, police stopped the vehicle and made the drug seizure, leading to the fishermen’s arrest.
The remaining four fishermen—Freddy Estuardo Chavez, 43, Angel Aragon, 44, Marvin Teul, 35, and Christian Merilyn White, 38—will have their bail applications heard on March 31, 2025, before Justice Nigel Pilgrim. They are represented by attorney David McKoy.
All six fishermen are set to return to the Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court on May 22, 2025 as their trial progresses.
