By Aaron Humes: The Police Department confirmed on Friday that the murder of twenty-four-year-old Luis Marin, who was fatally shot in Belize City last week, was wanted for questioning regarding a shooting in Belmopan that occurred days earlier.
Surveillance footage reveals several men exiting a vehicle as a barrage of gunfire erupted from another car nearby. There were no fatalities, but one passenger, Jamal Hyde, sustained injuries during the incident. Just three days later, Marin was shot and killed on Pinks Alley.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Regional Commander of the Eastern Division, announced that two suspects, identified as Scorian Stuart and Michael Gillett, have been arrested and charged with Marin’s murder. During today’s press briefing, Romero confirmed the shooting was, indeed, a retaliatory act linked to the earlier Belmopan shooting.
When questioned if the arrested men were present during the Belmopan incident, Romero stated that authorities have no information connecting them to the vehicle involved in the earlier shooting. However, he revealed that both suspects had some interaction with the individuals involved in the Belmopan shooting, which contributed to the circumstances surrounding Marin’s murder.
Romero clarified that Marin was targeted specifically while inside the Pinks Alley residence and was a person of interest in the investigation regarding the Belmopan incident.
In response to inquiries about the suspects’ criminal history, Romero indicated that both men are known to police but refrained from disclosing any affiliations to specific groups involved in criminal activities, as such information could compromise the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
While several individuals were detained and interviewed in connection with the Belmopan incident, Romero confirmed that no additional arrests have been made at this time.
Stuart and Gillett appeared in court and were remanded earlier today.
