By Aaron Humes: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has announced a schedule for special conventions to be held in 14 constituencies across the country. These conventions will allow members and supporters to decide who will lead their respective constituencies.
The party is scheduled to hold its National Convention on October 5 but may have to delay it to ensure all constituency delegates and standard bearers are in place.
Special Convention dates are as follows:
August 24: Fort George and Freetown
August 31: Collet and Port Loyola
September 7: Lake Independence and Pickstock
September 14: Belize Rural North and Orange Walk Central
September 28: Belize Rural South and Belize Rural Central
October 5: Dangriga and Belmopan
October 12: Stann Creek West and Toledo East
Four constituencies will hold endorsement conventions:
Corozal Bay: Dr. Omar Vasquez
Caribbean Shores: Zenobia Young
Cayo South: Dale Pelayo
Orange Walk East: Marlo Perera
A spokesperson for the party says these conventions aim to seek new faces and rebuild the party from its base.
