Nigy Boy performs in Guyana

What was planned as a night of music and enjoyment at the Old Broom All White event at the Port Mourant Community Centre Ground in Guyana, turned into a moment of shared grief, as Jamaican dancehall artist Nigy Boy paused his performance to pay tribute to 11-year-old Adrianna Younge, whose tragic death days earlier had rocked the oil-rich Caribbean nation.
Nigy Boy, who traveled to Guyana over the weekend for the event, found himself swept up into the emotional current surrounding the young girl’s untimely death, Nigy’s manager, Chris “Dr Love” Crooks, told Caribbean Life on Tuesday.
“Nigy was so touched by Adrianna’s death, that midway through his performance, he stopped to pay tribute in the way he knows best—through song,” Crooks said. “He sang ‘Missing You’ by Brandy, Tamia, Gladys Knight and Chaka Khan, and ‘Goodness of God.’
“The songs brought comfort to those in mourning, and it was Nigy’s way of standing in solidarity with Guyana during this difficult time,” Crooks added.
Reports indicate that Adrianna’s body was discovered in the pool of the Double Day Hotel in Tuschen on April 24, 2025—nearly 20 hours after she had been reported missing.
Her death has since ignited national outrage and calls for justice across the country and in the Diaspora, including New York.
Event promoter Vik Ramaiah of Old Broom Entertainment revealed there were discussions about canceling the event out of respect for the grieving nation.
“We considered cancelling, but many people had already flown in from overseas,” he said. “Still, throughout the night, all the DJs and artists paid tribute.
“But, when Nigy took the mike (microphone), he stopped the music, sang, and shared a few words. It was powerful.
“He ripped the heart of everyone in attendance,” Ramaiah added. “The impact spread across the Caribbean. The love and appreciation we received because of what he did—it meant everything.”
The tribute video has since gone viral, resonating far beyond the event itself and drawing praise from fans, community leaders and Adrianna’s supporters, Crooks said.
Nigy Boy reflected on the gravity of the momen.
“I had to stop and pay tribute to Adrianna and her family over her untimely and tragic passing,” he told Caribbean Life. “A loss of life is never easy, especially when it’s such a young soul.
“I could feel the country was in mourning, and I felt compelled to acknowledge that pain,” he added.
As Guyana continues to demand answers and justice for Adrianna, the artist’s gesture stands as a testament to music’s power to unify, console and honor those gone too soon.
