By Aaron Humes: The Belize Police Department is set for a significant leadership change as Chester Williams prepares to step down as Commissioner of Police, making way for Dr. Richard Rosado to take on the role. Although an official announcement from the Prime Minister is forthcoming, Minister of Home Affairs Kareem Musa has confirmed that Dr. Rosado will be succeeding Williams.
Dr. Rosado, who holds a Doctorate in Business Administration with a focus on Police Leadership from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, brings more than 20 years of dedicated service to the Belizean police force. His extensive experience in various key positions within the department is expected to play a crucial role in his new appointment.
Minister Musa expressed confidence in Rosado’s ability to deliver results, despite their differing working styles. He highlighted the importance of a smooth transition, emphasizing his close working relationship with both Williams and the deputy commissioners. “I have a good relationship with all of them; in my opinion, it’s going to be a smooth transition,” Musa stated. “Dr. Rosado is a lot more reserved, so we may need to fill the communication gap with a public relations officer to ensure the media receives timely updates.”
As he prepares to leave, Chester Williams reflected on his tenure, expressing excitement about his new role in the Ministry of Constitution and Religious Affairs, Indigenous Affairs and Transportation. “I’m grateful to the Prime Minister for this opportunity,” Williams said. “I have always embraced challenges, and I am committed to improving road safety in our country.”
Musa praised Williams for his decades of service, acknowledging his contributions that have significantly impacted public safety. He noted the importance of continuity in the successful strategies implemented during Williams’ tenure, assuring the public that the Police Department is committed to maintaining and enhancing the standards established under Williams’ leadership.
