THE START of the Class 2 880 yards and the athletes wait patiently. The event was won by Delroy Williams of Glenmuir, (third from right) in the record time of 1.59.2.

A BLUR OF SPEED and the entire grandstand stands to watch the great 220 yards duel between Lennox Miller of Kingston College (KC), in the lead, and Michael Fray, of St Andrew Technical, in a heat of the semi-final.

The Excelsior mile-relay team rest and chat while waiting on the start of the relay which was won by KC. Excelsior placed second.

GREENE GETS HOME: KC’s Class 2 relay team’s anchor man Colin Greene breaks the tape just ahead of Earl MacLaren of JC to achieve a record 44.2 seconds in the event. The JC team had previously broken the record with a 44.7 secs in the heats and were favoured to win. The KC team was Neville Oxford, Warren Chen Shui, Shafto Distin and Colin Greene.

April 1965 marked a historic chapter in Jamaican schoolboy athletics as Boys’ Champs delivered three electrifying days of record-breaking performances. From thrilling sprint finishes to jaw-dropping field events, young athletes shattered long-standing records and raised the bar for future generations.
