Addison James and Kerelle Etienne, two promising young Dominican athletes, have secured full sponsorships from two prominent financial organizations in the region, allowing them to compete at the upcoming 2025 CARIFTA Games, which will be held in Trinidad and Tobago. This significant announcement was made on Monday during the formal unveiling of the national team at the Dominica Olympic Committee.
Addison James, who specializes in javelin and discus competitions, has received sponsorship from the Central Cooperative Credit Union Ltd (CCCUL). Lorraine Henderson-Reid, the Marketing Manager, expressed the organization’s enthusiasm for backing the young competitor.
“We are proud and we are pleased to offer our full support and sponsorship to national athlete, Mr. Addison James,” stated Henderson-Reid.
Furthermore, Addison has been appointed as CCCUL’s latest brand ambassador, signifying a deeper partnership with the institution.
“It is official,” Henderson-Reid emphasized. “We wish to welcome you to the Central Cooperative Credit Union family and brand ambassador — a family of winners.”
Hailing from Marigot, James is affiliated with the Westmar Rangers Athletics Club and is currently a student at Edwin Allen High School in Jamaica, esteemed for nurturing top-tier track and field talent. He won a bronze medal in the Under-20 Boys’ Javelin throw at the 2024 CARIFTA Games held in Grenada.
On the other hand, Kerelle Etienne has also attained full sponsorship for her participation in the Games, courtesy of the Grand Bay Credit Union. She qualified for the Girls U-20 100 meters with an impressive time of 11.56 seconds, which established a new national U-20 record.
Neithel Matthew, Executive Assistant at the Grand Bay Credit Union, discussed the organization’s unwavering commitment to supporting Etienne’s athletic endeavors.
“Kerelle Etienne is doing exceptionally well in Jamaica, where she is currently studying, and we at the Grand Bay Credit Union are truly elated to come on board as her sponsor once again,” Matthew commented. “This is not our first time supporting Kerelle — we have sponsored her in the past, and we are simply continuing our commitment to her journey.”
“Both athletes are expected to play pivotal roles in Dominica’s performance at the regional championships, and their sponsorships highlight the strong collaboration between the corporate sector and national sports development,” shared the DDA via statement.
The organizations encourages the community to stand behind these young stars as they proudly represent Dominica at this prestigious regional event.
