Police say they are trying to identify a man whose body washed up at Safehaven Tuesday morning.
As of publication time, police had not publicly linked the discovery of the body with their search for a man reported missing after a Sunday afternoon boat trip.
The RCIPS issued a statement Tuesday afternoon saying its officers had responded to a report of a man washing ashore with no signs of life shortly before 9:30am.
A doctor attended the scene along with police and an assisting Emergency Medical Services unit, “at which time the unknown man was assessed and pronounced deceased at the scene”, police said.
“The body of the unknown man was forensically recovered, and a police investigation has been launched into the circumstances of his death,” the statement noted.
Search for missing man
A search for Channing Junior Williams, 39, of George Town, who was reported missing by family members on Monday, is continuing, police said in a separate statement on Tuesday. His family had last seen him Sunday afternoon before he travelled on a boat with friends to Starfish Point.
Police said that it was reported that Williams had “returned to shore on the boat and disembarked”.
The RCIPS commenced a search for the missing man, using the police drone and making CCTV checks.
Police say they want to talk to anyone who may have seen Williams on Sunday afternoon, or who may have been at Starfish Point or the Cayman Islands Yacht Club, or the boat he was travelling on.
