A bicyclist that was struck down on South Church Street yesterday remains in hospital in critical condition, the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service said in a statement.
Officers said they responded to a report of a traffic collision in the vicinity of Smith Barcadere at approximately 8:40pm Friday, where the cyclist had been struck by an unknown vehicle which then left the location.

EMS attended the scene, and the cyclist was transported to Anthony S. Eden Hospital for treatment for serious, life-threatening injuries.
The roadway was temporarily closed as officers conducted investigations but has since reopened.
The police said the vehicle that struck the cyclist and left the scene is described as a dark-coloured SUV with front-end damage.
They are actively seeking this vehicle and are appealing to the public for any information. Additionally, the police are urging local garages to be vigilant for any vehicle that may arrive for repairs matching this description.
Anyone who may have seen a dark-coloured SUV travelling in the area around the time of the incident, or who is aware of such a vehicle that appears to have recently sustained front-end damage, is asked to contact the Traffic and Roads Policing Unit at 649-6254 or the RCIPS Major Incident Room at 649-2930.
The incident remains under investigation.

The accident comes days after another bicyclist, Per Undheim, was killed in a hit-and-run collision on Easter Monday in Bodden Town. The 39-year-old father-of-two from Norway was struck while out on a morning bike ride.
His death has created a renewed call to improve road safety and respect for cyclists in Cayman.
