Police have arrested a 20-year-old woman from West Bay in relation to a hit-and-run incident that occurred on Friday, 25 April in the vicinity of Smith’s Barcadere.
The cyclist remains in the critical care unit at Anthony S. Eden Hospital with serious and life-threatening injuries.
The woman was arrested Saturday night for “a number of driving offenses in relation to the serious collision” which occurred just after 8:40pm Friday along South Church Street, police said in a statement.
The woman remains in custody as investigations continue.
The announcement follows an appeal by the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service for information about a dark coloured SUV with front-end damage, which they believe was connected to the hit and run that left the cyclist fighting for their life in hospital.
The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service is asking persons with information about the incident to call the Traffic and Roads Policing Unit at 649-6254 or the RCIPS Major Incident Room at 649-2930.
Additionally, anonymous tips can be provided directly to the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777, or via their website or through the Cayman Crime Stoppers website.
The accident comes days after another bicyclist, Per Undheim, was killed in a hit-and-run collision on Easter Monday in Bodden Town. The 39-year-old father-of-two from Norway was struck while out on a morning bike ride.
