At around 8:40pm Friday, a bicyclist was hit by a vehicle on South Church Street. A police spokesperson confirmed that the male victim had been transported to Anthony S. Eden Hospital in George Town.

The extent of the person’s injuries is not known at this time.
Police originally said it appeared the driver had stayed at the scene but later said the driver had fled.
At 9:30pm, the road remained closed to through traffic near the location on South Church Street just south of Grand Old House restaurant.
The accident comes just days after another bicyclist, Per Undheim, was killed in a hit-and-run collision on Easter Monday in Bodden Town. The 39-year-old father-of-two from Norway was struck while out on a morning bike ride. His death has created a renewed call to improve road safety and respect for cyclists in Cayman.
