
Santo Domingo — The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) reported that it detained 1,358 Haitian nationals with irregular immigration status in a series of operations carried out in different provinces.
According to a statement from the DGM, of those detained, 616 were deported to their country of origin through border points located in Dajabón (253 people), Elías Piña (176), Jimaní (158), and Pedernales (29), where they were handed over to Haitian immigration authorities, following established protocols and in compliance with human rights protection standards.
The agency stated that the immigration interdictions were supported by the Ministry of Defense, the Dominican Republic Army, the Specialized Land Border Security Corps (Cesfront), and the National Police.
The most significant arrests of undocumented migrants were made in Greater Santo Domingo with 200, Santiago de los Caballeros with 236, La Vega with 21, Mao/Santiago Rodríguez with 36, Azua with nine, Barahona with 20, and Puerto Plata with 68.
In addition, the Army detained 591 illegal Haitians, Cesfront 155, and the Police 22.
