Usain Bolt, the famous Olympic sprinter and world record holder, has been named Jamaica’s new Global Tourism Ambassador. The announcement came from Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett, who called Bolt the perfect person to represent Jamaica to the world.
“Usain Bolt is more than just a national hero—he’s known and loved everywhere,” said Bartlett. “He shows off the true spirit of Jamaica with his charm and energy.”
Bolt, who still holds the world records in the 100m and 200m races, will now help promote Jamaica as a top travel spot. His job includes appearing in international ads, helping with branding, and speaking at big tourism events.
At a press event in Kingston, Bolt said he was proud to accept the role. “Jamaica made me who I am. I want to give back by encouraging the world to visit and feel what makes Jamaica special,” he said.
This appointment is part of a bigger plan to boost travel to Jamaica after the pandemic. The country hopes to attract more visitors from new places and show that Jamaica has more than just beaches.
Bolt will also help create unique travel experiences with his name on them—like sports tours, music trips, and food adventures that show off Jamaican culture.
Bolt has taken on ambassador roles before, such as with UNICEF and youth programs. But tourism officials say this new role could have a big impact.
“With Bolt, we’re not just showing off our beaches,” said Minister Bartlett. “We’re sharing the energy and greatness of Jamaica.”
Bolt’s first ad as tourism ambassador will be released this summer in London, and another one is planned for Tokyo later this year.
There was no word on how much Bolt will be paid. If financial details are disclosed later, they would likely appear in government budget reports or press releases from the Ministry of Tourism.
