US President Donald Trump has issued a stark call for Iran to surrender unconditionally in the ongoing conflict with Israel, which has persisted for several days. The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump claimed that the United States is aware of the whereabouts of Iran’s top leader but has chosen not to take action at this time.
The article also states that the President is weighing a variety of options, including the possibility of launching a U.S. military strike against Iran. He reportedly convened a meeting with senior advisers in the Situation Room on Tuesday to discuss these possibilities.
Trump departed early from the G-7 summit in Canada. Wall Street Journal accounts say he claimed his decision was not driven by a desire to work on a ceasefire but by a goal he described as “much bigger than that.” When pressed for clarification, the President emphasized his aim for “an end, a real end, not a cease-fire.”
The White House has stated that the United States is not participating in Israel’s military operations against Iran, despite recent regional military activity that has sparked speculation.
Notably, shared The Wall Street Journal, a third U.S. Navy destroyer has entered the eastern Mediterranean to bolster defenses for Israel, and a second U.S. carrier strike group is en route to the Arabian Sea. The publication says Pentagon officials affirm that these deployments are purely defensive, they also serve to strengthen U.S. positioning should President Trump opt to support Israeli strikes against Iran.
“Alternatively, it could be a tactic to pressure Iran to capitulate or make concessions,” said the article.
Meanwhile, hostilities between Israel and Iran continue to escalate, with both sides exchanging fire. Reports from human rights organizations indicate that Iranian casualties have surpassed 450, while Israel has suffered 24 fatalities as a result of Iranian missile strikes.
