

Eileen Parsons was among the former legislators honoured at this year’s Territory Day.
Former legislator and cultural icon Eileene Parsons has died at 94 years old.
BVI News understands that Parsons passed away on the morning of Sunday, June 22. The exact cause of death has not been disclosed at this time.
Parsons leaves behind a distinguished legacy in both politics and culture. She served in several ministerial portfolios during her time in public office, including as Deputy Chief Minister. She is also credited as being instrumental in the establishment of the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) in 1990. The main auditorium at the college is named in her honour.
In recognition of her service to education, culture, and community, Parsons was awarded the title of Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2013 Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Even in retirement, Parsons remained an active and influential figure in public life, frequently sharing her views on national issues through public commentary and appearances on local radio programmes.
