By Breaking Belize News Staff: A comment by the Mayor of Benque Viejo del Carmen, Jorge Rosales, has stirred controversy among residents after he claimed that the town’s population is made up of “85 to 90% Guatemalans.”
The remark was made during today’s morning show on Love FM and has since gone viral, with a video clip circulating widely on social media.
In the interview, Mayor Rosales said, “It’s like Benque is 85 to 90% Guatemalan and 10% Mexican.”
The statement has angered many residents, who say the Mayor is misrepresenting the town’s identity.
And, the residents of Benque Viejo del Carmen have asserted that they are 100% Belizeans and proud.
