By Aaron Humes: A violent home invasion occurred in the early hours of this morning Thursday, August 14, in Blackman Eddy Village, Cayo District, leaving one intruder dead and three residents injured.
At approximately 1:00 a.m., police responded to a report of a home invasion at a residence in Blackman Eddy Village. Upon arrival, officers found a male, later identified as 25-year-old Sergio Andino from San Ignacio, lying motionless inside the house with severe chop wounds.
According to initial investigations, Andino and another male intruder, armed with a handgun and machete, broke into the home and attacked a family of three senior citizens. The intruders attacked the residents, sparking a confrontation. During the struggle, one of the women managed to take control of the machete and used it to defend herself and her family, causing fatal injuries to Andino. The other intruder escaped.
The residents sustained various injuries and received medical treatment. Andino was pronounced dead at the hospital. The motive behind the home invasion is still under investigation.
