Following seven weeks dedicated to creativity, skill enhancement, and the promotion of sustainable practices, the Mini Designers Summer Program is set to conclude with an exciting fashion runway event titled “Mom, See Me on the Runway.” The program, organized by Finesse Beauty House of Fashion in collaboration with Blossom Dominica, “gave children ages 8–16 the opportunity to explore design, garment construction, sustainable fashion practices, and
storytelling as well as self expression through their clothing.”
A joint press release shared that the children engaged in activities ranging from sketching initial ideas to sewing their own garments, transforming their imaginative concepts into tangible fashion pieces. These creations will now be showcased on the runway, marking the culmination of their efforts.
The Mini Designers Runway Show is a component of the newly introduced “Fashion with Purpose” campaign. According to the organizers, this campaign aims to motivate individuals passionate about fashion while raising awareness about the substantial environmental impact of the global fashion industry. It emphasizes empowering youth to become environmentally conscious designers, encouraging the recycling and repurposing of garments that are torn, stained, or no longer wearable. The event will highlight not only the originality of the young designers’ creations but also convey important messages about sustainability, upcycling, and mindful fashion choices.
Community members, families, and supporters are invited to attend this inspiring event, where the next generation of designers will demonstrate their creativity, purpose, and pride. The showcase also celebrates the collective effort of parents, mentors, and supporters whose encouragement made this journey possible. It serves as a reminder that with proper tools and guidance, young people can produce work that inspires others and reflects the cultural heritage of Dominica.
Kimara Matthew, CEO of Finesse Beauty House of Fashion and Blossom Dominica, expressed that the initiative extends beyond a traditional camp. She emphasized that it is about equipping the youth with essential skills, confidence, and a sense of environmental responsibility. The runway event will honor their achievements and offer a glimpse into the future of fashion in Dominica.
While the young designers’ originality will be front and center, organizers promise that the event will also spotlight their dedication to sustainable and conscious fashion practices. Attendees are encouraged to witness these young visionaries showcase their designs, values, and their commitment to both the future of fashion and the health of our planet.
