Former Health Services Authority physician Dr. Paul Anthony Taiganides, 61, appeared in Summary Court Tuesday charged with manslaughter in relation to the death of gunshot wound victim Travis Ebanks.
Taiganides was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter due to gross negligence in September last year, nine months after Ebanks died at the authority’s hospital in George Town.
The doctor, who no longer works at the Health Services Authority, appeared before Chief Magistrate Angelyn Hernandez, who granted him bail on the conditions of surrendering his passport, residing at a given address and reporting to the George Town Police Station once a week.
She committed the case to the Grand Court, as the offence he is charged with – manslaughter by unlawful omission – is a category A offence which can only be heard in the higher court.
Taiganides was ordered to appear before the Grand Court at 2pm on Thursday, 28 Aug.
