By Jose Luis Cruz: UDP Leader Shyne Barrow, launched a major school bag initiative again this year, this time benefiting over a thousand students in the Mesopotamia constituency.
On the 23rd August, The UDP Party Leader, handed out 500 school bags to students across the constituency. And thanks to the support from current NBA basketball player, Fred VanVleet, another 750 school children received school bags on August 30th just in time for classes that began today.
This gesture from Barrow is intended to ease the financial burden on families in Mesopotamia and support the young students as they prepared to return to school today.
Barrow told Breaking Belize News that he “was elated to see the smiles on the faces of these young students” and this, he said, “was reward enough for his gesture”.
The UDP leader went on to express gratitude to Houston Rockets point guard, Fred VanVleet for his financial support to procure the 750 additional bags that were distributed. “Thanks to my brother Fred VanVleet we were able to help another 750 children with school bags”, Barrow posted on social media.
