The victim of the fatal shooting in St. Kitts that Dominica News Online (DNO) reported earlier today has been identified as 18-year-old Sean Kadim John, a Dominican national and student of Washington Archibald High School in St. Kitts.
According to a statement issued by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force on Sunday morning, the incident occurred late Saturday night in the College Housing area, a residential district near Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College. Police confirmed that John sustained a single gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
John was originally from Gutter Village in Roseau, Dominica.
A family member told DNO that his mother found him lying in his bed with a bullet wound to the head.
Authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident. No suspects have been named, and the motive remains unknown.
The shooting follows recent concerns about gun violence in the Federation. Earlier this week, law enforcement officials reported the discovery of illegal firearms and ammunition in an area called Saddlers in the twin-island Federation.
