A landmark event in Caribbean aviation history saw Windward Island Airways International (WINAIR) successfully operating its inaugural all-female flight on September 24, 2025. With two out of the three staff being of “daughters of the soil”, it was an especially proud moment for Dominica.
Linking Sint Maarten with Curaçao and Aruba, the crew comprised Captain Dannah Abraham, and First Officer Alexandra Dupigny, both hailing from the Nature Isle. Additionally, the team featured airhostess Kimone Eristhee.
For Captain Abraham, who recently made press as WINAIR’s first female ATR captain, the occasion was profoundly meaningful.
She reflected, “Today felt bigger than anything I’ve experienced before — it wasn’t just about being the first female captain, but about flying with an all-female crew. When women see us in these roles, they feel inspired and accomplished. My advice to them is simple: set your goal, work toward it, and be ready when your time comes.”
Captain Abraham’s journey exemplifies having the courage to reach for an unlikely dream, having revealed in a previous DNO article that she started off as a flight attendant and suffered a few setbacks in her trajectory as a pilot. She embarked on this career at 24 and dedicated over ten years to reaching this significant milestone.
She emphasized, “It took time and dedication, but if you continue working towards your dream, your time will come — and when it does, you must be ready.”
WINAIR reported that passengers welcomed the historic flight with applause, celebrating the achievement.
In response, Captain Abraham expressed her gratitude: “I’d like to thank the management at WINAIR, our outstations in Aruba and Curaçao, the passengers, and everyone who celebrated this special day with us.”
Pascalle Wong-A-Foe, WINAIR’s Marketing and Communications Manager, spoke on behalf of the airlines, acknowledging the historic moment, “This historic flight is more than a milestone for WINAIR — it is a proud moment for the Caribbean. It symbolizes progress, empowerment, and the remarkable dedication of our women in aviation.”
