Marking the half-century milestone of Alwin Bully’s inaugural significant theatrical work, the Alwin Bully Foundation, in collaboration with La Cour Des Arts De La Dominique Inc., is set to revitalize the acclaimed production, “STREAK”. This special reprise will take place on November 1 and 2, aligning with Dominica’s 47th Independence Day celebrations and honoring the upcoming 77th birthday of the renowned playwright and cultural icon.
Originally penned by Alwin Bully and first performed by People’s Action Theatre in 1975, “STREAK” was staged across Dominica and various Caribbean nations. The play captures a pivotal era characterized by profound social, political, and cultural transformations, notably influenced by the Black Power and Rastafarian movements, as outlined in a press release. It vividly portrays the struggles encountered by young people during that turbulent period.
Organizers announced that the upcoming performances will feature a cast of more than 20 actors, under the direction of Severin Mckenzie, with Curtis Clarendon serving as assistant director. A media launch for the event is scheduled at The Factory on Tuesday, September 30.
The performances will be hosted at The Geralds Hall on Saturday, November 1, and Sunday, November 2.
“Theatre Lovers, supporters and well-wishers are encouraged to attend”, said the team.
Tickets are priced at $75 and can be purchased from Bulls Eye Pharmacy.
