BVI News understands that four persons have been arrested in connection with the armed robbery at House of Luxury at the Cyril Romney Tortola Pier Park on Tuesday.
Our news centre has not yet ascertained their identities, but highly placed sources say none of the suspects are Virgin Islanders and that they all share the same nationality. It is not yet clear whether they have been charged, but BVI News understands that they remain in custody.
According to a statement from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) on Wednesday, the masked individuals entered the establishment armed with weapons and demanded valuables.
“The suspects fled the scene via a motor vessel with an undisclosed quantity of jewellery. The motor vessel used was later recovered in the Kingston area. No serious injuries have been reported at this time, though staff and customers were left shaken by the incident,” the RVIPF stated.
“Investigators from the Criminal Investigation Department are actively pursuing leads into this matter. Four persons have since been brought in for questioning in relation to this investigation,” the police added.
Meanwhile, Acting Commissioner of Police Richard Ullger described the robbery — the second of its kind at the same establishment in two years — as a brazen act that endangered members of the public.
“We are dedicating all necessary resources to identify and apprehend those responsible. We urge anyone with information to come forward,” the interim top cop stated.
Members of the public who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the vicinity of the Pier Park or in the Kingston area around the time of the incident are encouraged to contact the Intelligence Unit at 368-9339 or call the anonymous Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-8477 or 284-800-8477 from overseas.
