Not the marijuana mentioned in the story
BVI News understands that police are investigating an incident in which suspected cannabis was found on a student at a public primary school in the territory.
Highly placed sources indicated the matter occurred earlier this week at a primary school in Tortola after lunch, when teachers reportedly confiscated cannabis and other items from a pupil.
The child’s age and how they came into possession of the substances are not yet known. Our news centre was told that a few small bags of cannabis and others containing tobacco were among the items seized. Officers also reportedly found a lighter in the child’s possession.
It is understood that investigations into the incident are ongoing, and it is not yet clear whether any adults will be charged in connection with the matter.
The news comes amid increased reports of authorities discovering illegal drugs during stop-and-search operations and in small parcels shipped into the territory through mail and courier services. Officials have continued enforcement efforts and issued public reminders about the legal consequences of drug-related offences.
