Saint Lucian author Empress Isis Daniel draws on her own life and experiences to help readers find healing, reflection and self-discovery in her new book Golden Reflections of Ancient of Days. Inspired by personal loss and spiritual growth, the book takes a thoughtful look at how pain can lead to purpose.

Daniel is an independent author, plant-based nutritionist, certified yoga practitioner, natural healer and herbalist. She explains that writing felt like a natural next step in her life’s work, not a sudden choice. “For the past two decades, I have devoted my life to serving the community through plant-based nourishment and natural health, sharing guidance that encourages people to care for their bodies and overall well-being,” she explained. Over time, her support grew to include emotional and personal guidance, as people turned to her during challenging times.
“Writing became a natural extension of that work,” Daniel said, noting that while many of her upcoming projects focus on health and wellness, this book reflects a more introspective dimension. “I also believe that true healing involves reflection, balance and inner understanding.”
Daniel told St Lucia Times that the inspiration for the book came during a painful period after losing her daughter. “During that time I found myself searching for meaning, direction and healing,” she said. Through that process, she discovered that pain can coexist with growth. “I began to realise that even through our most painful experiences, there is wisdom and transformation waiting to be discovered.”
The book was released on March 21, the anniversary of her daughter’s passing. Daniel says this was a deliberate choice. The release, she said, represents “transforming that pain into purpose and allowing something meaningful to emerge from that experience”.
Rather than offering direct instruction, Golden Reflections of Ancient of Days takes a more companion-like approach. Daniel describes it as “a collection of reflective insights designed to guide readers back to their inner wisdom.” The book encourages readers to pause and engage with their own experiences. “It encourages readers to pause, reflect on their life experiences and to integrate the strength and discernment that already exist within them,” she said.
“Even in our most difficult life experiences, there is wisdom waiting to be discovered.”
Daniel said that self-awareness and reflection are key tools in transforming pain into growth.
The book took about six years to develop, shaped by Daniel’s personal reflection and outside experiences. She said she took her time, letting her thoughts grow naturally. While in Jamaica in 2025, she saw the effects of Hurricane Melissa and helped with relief efforts. These experiences made her reflect even more and strengthened her commitment to finishing the book.
The writing process itself was deeply spiritual. “It involved moments of quiet reflection where I translated life experiences and personal insights into written guidance,” she said. However, the journey was not without challenges. Balancing authorship with daily responsibilities and managing the demands of self-publishing required discipline and resilience.
Even with these challenges, Daniel decided to self-publish to retain full creative control. She said holding the finished book for the first time was overwhelming. “It was a quiet moment of stillness where I could simply absorb what had taken place,” she recalled. “To see something that had lived within me for years finally take physical form was deeply humbling.”
Readers, she noted, have already responded positively, particularly to the book’s journal-style sections. These sections encourage deeper engagement and self-reflection, setting the work apart from others in its genre.
The influence of Saint Lucian and wider Caribbean life is also present throughout the book. Daniel explained that her perspective is shaped by “the rhythm of island life, the strength of community, and the way we reflect on life’s challenges”. She believes local stories hold immense power, though writers must be willing to step forward and share them confidently.
Looking ahead, Daniel is preparing for her official book launch on April 27, a date that also carries personal meaning as it marks her late daughter’s birthday.
For aspiring writers, she offers this advice: “In authenticity lies your true power. When writers trust their voice and know their story, the inspiration naturally flows.”
Daniel hopes her book leaves readers with a renewed sense of self and the courage to move forward. She describes it as “a reflective journey that encourages readers to rediscover their true power and transform life’s experiences into personal growth”.
