By Rubén Morales Iglesias: American rider Jade Stevens delivered an exceptional performance, claiming victory in the 73-mile 34th Annual Puma Women’s Cross Country Cycling Classic from San Ignacio to Digi Park in Belize City. Her relentless determination and strategic approach secured her place in Belizean cycling history.

Belizean junior rider Irene Baki, riding for Williams Racing Development (WRD), gave Steven s agood run for her money and finished in second place.
Stevens, representing Major Motion Racing LLC, launched an early attack that set the pace for the race. She and Baki broke away from the pack, creating an intense head-to-head battle. Their lead over the chasing group of four riders steadily grew, reaching a commanding 11 minutes as they approached Belize City.

Stevens pulled ahead with a powerful attack just before the Burdon Canal Bridge at Mile 6, distancing herself from Baki and crossing the finish line alone in Belize City—more than a minute ahead of her young rival.
Baki displayed impressive skill and determination, marking a major milestone in her career. Her second-place finish highlights the rising competitiveness of junior riders in the sport. Despite the controversy surrounding junior riders’ inclusion, the decision to allow them in the competition added an exciting dynamic to the race, with Baki’s performance standing out as a defining moment.
