An equipment storage locker was completely destroyed in an early morning fire at Point Wharf on Wednesday, prompting an immediate response from local fire crews.
The St John’s Fire Station received an emergency call at 2 a.m. reporting a structure fire at the waterfront location and fire crews responded immediately with the Number 19 fire tender.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a 7’ x 6’ wood and concrete structure fully engulfed in flames. The building, which was being used as a locker to store fishing gear, was quickly tackled using water from the fire tender.
Despite the swift response, Inspector Lester Bagot confirmed that both the structure and all of its contents were completely destroyed by the blaze.
“Water was used from the fire tender to extinguish the fire,” he added. “The structure was identified as a locker, and it was used to store fishing gear.”
Fire crews remained on the scene to ensure the blaze was fully extinguished and an investigation was subsequently launched to determine the origin and cause of the fire. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
