The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Export Development expresses its deep and ongoing concern for the safety and welfare of Grenadian seafarers.
In view of recent developments involving maritime navigation in the region, the ministry issues this advisory as a matter of priority.
Before undertaking any voyage, all Grenadian shipping operators, vessel owners, and crew members are reminded of the following essential safety practices:
- Conduct comprehensive maintenance and seaworthiness checks prior to departure
- Ensure that all navigational, mechanical, and emergency systems are fully operational
- Maintain a clear and up-to-date understanding of regional maritime boundaries
- Avoid entering foreign territorial waters without proper authorisation
- Promptly report any mechanical failures or distress situations to the appropriate national and international maritime authorities.
In addition to these standard precautions, operators are strongly urged to exercise heightened vigilance, ensuring all crew members are briefed on emergency protocols when navigating near the territorial waters of neighbouring states. Given the current sensitivities and in the interest of avoiding potential complications, the ministry advises all maritime personnel to proceed with increased caution and responsibility.
The ministry underscores the importance of adhering to international maritime safety protocols and calls on all stakeholders to exercise collective vigilance in preventing avoidable incidents. It remains committed to working with national and regional partners to uphold safe navigation practices and safeguard the interests of Grenadian seafarers.
