SCOTLAND could suffer thunder, hail and snow showers tomorrow – just hours before the start of British Summertime.
The clocks go forward on Saturday night but the weather is going into reverse due to a cold front sitting over the country.
It will also turn noticeably cooler than average for the time of year, with temperatures in single figures in the west of Scotland.
However, much-needed rain will help restore dwindling water supplies, particularly in the east of the country.
Parts of Fife and the area around Dundee have been recording just a third of the month’s normal rainfall.
Meteorologist Clare Nasir of the Met Office said a weak front was straddling Scotland and Northern Ireland yesterday.
She added: “This will bring with it cooler air through Friday.
“Winds will be a feature of the weather over the next 24 hours as well.
“On Friday, towards the west, the air is colder and certainly you will notice the difference.
“It is turning colder for many areas, with temperatures around average or slightly below as we head through Friday and into Saturday.
“Showers will move in behind on a cold and gusty wind, with the risk of thunder, hail and even some wintriness over the higher ground.
“Temperatures will be 12C or 13C (54-55F) at best, with single figures across the western side of Scotland.”
Clocks go forward by one hour on Saturday night, heralding another dry spell for the start of April on Tuesday.
It comes a week after parts of the Highlands enjoyed highs of 19C with locals flocking to beaches to sunbathe.
The hot temperatures put Spanish hotspots in the shade.
Last week Mediterranean party island Ibiza managed just 18C with showers, and the Andalusian city of Seville had thunderstorms and highs of 16C.
