The Ministry of Health informs the residents of St Patrick and the general public that the Sauteurs Health Centre will NOT be closed on Monday, 12 May 2025, as has been rumoured in certain circles.
The ministry is concerned about the spread of misinformation, which may cause unnecessary panic, especially among elderly patients, individuals with chronic illnesses, and expectant mothers.
To provide clarity, the ministry shares the following updates:
- Priority facility for upgrades: The Sauteurs Health Centre is designated as a priority health facility for major repairs and upgrades, following repeated concerns from staff and clients about improving working conditions and accessibility
- Restoration of the Maternity Unit: There has been a consistent demand for the restoration of the maternity unit, and the government is actively working to address this need
- Commitment from government and health officials: Officials have engaged staff on multiple occasions to discuss concerns, and commitments have been made to resolve key issues
- Funding for upgrades: The Sauteurs Health Centre will receive funding for its smart component through the OECS Regional Health Project
- Planned temporary closure and service continuation: During an April 2025 sensitisation meeting at the Gouyave Health Centre, healthcare officials outlined a proposal to temporarily close the facility from 1 June 2025, to facilitate repairs. During this period, all clinics and services will be redirected to nearby medical stations, including Tivoli, River Sallee, Hermitage, and Union
The Ministry of Health urges the public to disregard false claims and calls on those spreading misinformation to act responsibly. We encourage the public to follow our social media page and listen to reputable media houses for further updates.
We thank the community for its understanding and cooperation as we work to improve healthcare services for all.
