Antigua and Barbuda made another significant diplomatic move this week by establishing its first permanent presence in the United Arab Emirates in the form of a new embassy in Abu Dhabi.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday brought together officials from both nations. UAE Ministers Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan and Reem Al Hashimy joined Antigua and Barbuda’s Foreign Affairs Minister Chet Greene and the country’s first resident Ambassador to the UAE Gilbert Boustany, for the occasion.
Greene described the embassy as “a tangible declaration” of Antigua and Barbuda’s commitment to building substantial relationships in the Middle East. He also expressed particular admiration for the UAE’s rapid transformation into a global hub for innovation and sustainability.
“It is this spirit of ambition and resilience that we admire and strive to emulate,” Greene told the assembled dignitaries, suggesting his island nation sees the UAE as a model worth following.
For Antigua and Barbuda, the UAE connection could open doors to new investment opportunities, trade relationships, and climate resilience partnerships.
