As the leader of H.Wright Basketball in the 2025 Cool and Smooth Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association regular season’s top scorer, Humroy Wright has been putting in extra work to prepare for what he hopes will be another historic campaign.
“I have a task of not just playing, but leading my team,” Wright explained in a recent interview with Observer Media. “I need to make sure that I’m in shape physically and mentally. I choose to go early mornings when the court is empty and I’m able to work on my game and work on the things that I need to perfect so that I can compete at the highest level.”
The dedicated athlete’s approach to preparation reflects his ultimate goal for the upcoming season. “I’m focused on enjoying the game, everything about the game. My main goal is to enjoy the game of basketball and to compete at the highest level and hopefully we can come out at the top of the league, which is to be the Champions.”
While Wright dominated last season as the league’s leading scorer, he remains humble about the possibility of breaking records again. “If it means that I’m so locked in and focused on winning and competing at the highest level, if I’m able to set history, I would be grateful. It’s always an amazing feeling to do something historic.”
The basketball star already holds one remarkable record – sinking 24 three-pointers in a single game back in 2018, a feat that may still stand in the league’s history books.

With the new school year having just begun, Wright has a powerful message for aspiring young basketball players who dream of reaching the top level.
“Never let where you come from stop you from going places that you can go,” Wright emphasized. “You might come from a place where you don’t have much. It doesn’t mean that you can’t be a star. It doesn’t mean that you can’t be who you’re destined to be.”
His advice centers on three key principles for youth success; lead by example: “Lead. And if you decide to follow, follow people who can make you better.” He spoke to work ethic being everything: “Work hard because nothing worth having comes easy. And finally being true to one’s self: “Be yourself… Never let where you come from stop you from going all the way to the top.”
Wright’s message resonates particularly strongly given his own journey from humble beginnings to becoming one of the league’s most prominent figures
As H Wright Basketball prepares for the upcoming season, his focus remains squarely on team success. The combination of his leadership, scoring ability, and unwavering work ethic positions the team as serious contenders for the Champions League title. Sandals are the defending Champions winning both the regular and playoff titles.
For young athletes watching Wright’s journey, his story serves as proof that with dedication, proper guidance, and an unshakeable belief in oneself, even the highest levels of success are achievable.
“You definitely can accomplish all of the goals that you want to accomplish,” Wright concluded, offering hope to the next generation of basketball talent in Antigua and Barbuda and beyond.
