Friday night football at the ABFA Technical Centre provided contrasting fortunes for Princess Margaret School (PMS), as their boys’ team cruised to victory while the girls suffered their first defeat of the season in the Cool and Smooth Joma Caribbean Ministry of Sports Football School League.
In the Girls U-20 fixture, Antigua Girls High School (AGHS) edged PMS with a slender victory. The match remained goalless through the first half as both teams struggled to break down organized defenses. The deadlock was finally broken ten minutes into the second half when Kendra Aska found the back of the net in the 55th minute, securing all three points for AGHS.
AGHS are now leading the Female U-20 division with 18 points from seven matches and PMS fall into second place due to Friday’s setback.
They have accumulated 16 points from seven matches while Clare Hall Secondary School occupy the third position with nine points; Jennings Secondary School are currently in fourth.
The top scorer in the Female U-20 division is Nafisa Quashie from AGHS, who has been in sensational form with ten goals to her name.
Abigail Donald of Jennings Secondary School is second in the scoring charts with five goals, while Rolesha Humphreys from PMS has contributed four goals to her team’s campaign.
The Boys U-20 encounter between Harrison Center and Princess Margaret School proved to be a much more entertaining affair, with PMS running riot in a comprehensive victory.
Harrison Center started brightly and took the lead through Kayonzea Gafford in the ninth minute but their joy was short-lived as Princess Margaret responded with a ruthless display of attacking football.
Mario Lewis restored parity just eight minutes later in the 17th minute, settling any nerves in the PMS camp. Dahvia Hughes then gave the visitors the lead in the 31st minute, heading into halftime with the advantage 2-0.
The second half saw Princess Margaret Secondary take complete control of proceedings. Shumba Thomas extended the lead five minutes into the second half with a well-taken goal in the 50th minute. Hughes wasn’t done yet and completed his brace 20 minutes from time, scoring in the 70th minute to seal a 4-1 victory for the visitors.
In the Male U-20 division Antigua Barbuda Colleges of Advanced Studies lead the way with 22 points from eight matches while PMS are second with 21 points. Harrison Center are on 18 points from eight matches.
Sir Novelle Richards Academy sit in fourth place with 13 points from eight matches, having won four, lost three, and drawn one. Demarre Swift from Ottos Comprehensive School leads the scoring charts with eight goals despite his team’s struggles. Shumba Thomas and Alan Henry, both representing PMS, have each found the net five times this season.
