By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A 33-year-old Belizean national has reportedly been detained in Houston, Texas, by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Commissioner of Police Richard Rosado confirmed that Benigno Loria was detained on February 17.

Unverified reports circulating online have linked Loria to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), the Mexican criminal organization formerly led by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, also known as “El Mencho.” However, Belizean officials have not confirmed those claims.
Loria reportedly entered the United States in 2023 after surviving an attempt on his life at the Pueblo Viejo ferry in Corozal, where a fatal shooting occurred. Police had previously indicated that incident was drug-related.
The Ministry of Home Affairs stated that it has not yet received any official communication from Interpol regarding Loria’s detention.
