Young Caymanians seeking careers in public safety can now gain valuable experience with the Cayman Islands Cadets Corps.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has created a new initiative which teams the cadets with the Cayman Islands Coast Guard and Cayman Islands Fire Service.
SEA CADETS PATHWAY
A partnership formed with the Coast Guard equips cadets with skills and experience in maritime operations, leadership, and community service.
Through hands-on training aboard vessels such as the recently commissioned MV Miss Gwen, cadets will learn essential competencies in navigation, search and rescue, and maritime safety.
This pathway emphasises preparing cadets for careers in maritime services, including opportunities with the Coast Guard and other maritime service providers.
FIRE CADETS PATHWAY
The fire cadet detachment, stationed at George Town Fire Station, focuses on emergency response, fire safety, and first aid.
Under the guidance of seasoned instructors from the Fire Service, cadets gain critical life-saving skills and leadership training, positioning them for roles in fire-rescue services and other uniformed emergency management professions.
STRUCTURED OPPORTUNITIES
Both pathways ensure cadets are not only prepared for public safety careers but also equipped with leadership, teamwork, and critical thinking skills that enhance their personal and professional growth.

ADVANTAGES
Cadets will not automatically be offered job positions with the Fire Service or the Coast Guard. However, as the cadet detachments provide the foundation of training and knowledge that recruits would undergo, it provides a key advantage in the recruitment process.
It also provides an advantage in that the cadets will have already developed relationships, and members of the uniformed services will be aware of those who are qualified to join
their ranks.
ABOUT THE CADET CORPS
The Cayman Islands Cadet Corps is designed to teach male and female high school students between the ages of 12 and 17 the value of citizenship, leadership, service to the community, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment while instilling in them self-esteem, teamwork and self-discipline.
It prepares them for responsible leadership roles while making them aware of their rights, responsibilities and privileges as Caymanians.
The cadet programme is based on the British ACF 4-star progressive training system, with the requisite subjects being available at all four-star levels. A cadet who serves four years in the corps and completes the entire 4-star programme gains an Army Proficiency Certificate (APC) at each level.
