
Dominica joins the rest of the world to celebrate International Men’s Day today under the theme: “Celebrating Men and Boys”.
International Men’s Day is celebrated annually on November 19 in order to recognize the positive contributions of men in society.
According to information from bing.com it also raises awareness of men’s health and well-being issues.
It went on to state that the concept of International Men’s Day was first proposed during the 1960s, however was officially inaugurated on November 19, 1999, by Dr. Jerome Tellucksing in Trinidad and Tobago.
“He chose this date to honor his father’s birthday and to commemorate the unifying efforts of the Trinidad and Tobago men’s football team in 1989,” the information revealed.
Meanwhile, as part of this celebration, the Business Professional Women (BPW) Dominica will celebrate 19 men for their contribution to community, in various areas, at an awards ceremony today.
