Golden Grove FC rebounded from a recent loss to former top flight champions Greenbay Hoppers to, ironically, edge another former top flight champion Parham FC, winning 2-1 when they met in the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) First Division on Thursday.
Playing at Golden Grove, the home team drew first blood when Stephen Hughes put them out front in the 10th minute. Golden Grove stretched their advantage deep in the second half when Yowzan Morris made it 2-0 in the 79th.
Parham pulled a goal back in the 90th minute but could not find an equalizer before the final whistle. They were reduced to 10 men in added time after Davrick Lockhart was shown straight red by referee Colin Ford in 90+3.
The win lifts Golden Grove to 15 points after six showings and second in the standings while Parham remain on five points.
Meanwhile, Greenbay Hoppers remained at the top of the standings with a comfortable 4-1 win over English Harbour at English Harbour.
Yakira Aska (11th), Jomo Andrew (14th), Roan Harris Jr (54th) and Javorn Stevens (63rd), all scored once as Hoppers move their tally of points to 15 after six showings. However, they have a better goal difference to that of Golden Grove.
Akeem Weekes scored the only goal for English Harbour when he netted in the 82nd minute.
Also on Thursday, Blue Jays defeated Willikies FC 3-0 at Willikies. Ja-Rohn Thomas (40th and 56th) led with a double while Kishorn Hamilton (50th) scored the other goal.
